But For The Seagulls

The theme at my church this month has been beauty. I have not taken the time to really enjoy beauty, so the other day I went to our local beach with a camera, a book and a lunch to get in some nature. I sat at a picnic table near the board-walk by the lake.

The lake was choppy, the wind was to strong to really hold a book open to read it, and I had to hold onto my lunch between bites. Despite all that, I sat for a moment to try and find the beauty where I was. I closed my eyes and began to concentrate on the wind. Then I heard it, a child yelling, and as I opened my eyes I saw a child chasing seagulls, all in MY direction. It was at that moment I remembered my fear of seagulls.

I tried to find beauty in the strong wind that was turning the pages of my book way before I read them, I tried to find  beauty as the wind picked up my empty lunch bag, causing me to chase after it to "Dispose of Properly". The seagulls - nothing for me there, but for a fear I someday needed to conquer.

So I quickly grabbed my things and headed for my car, jumping in quickly, starting the car as I closed the door. I opened the windows, felt the wind once again, and proceeded to have - a beautiful ride home.
